A Workshop Built on Patience and Proper Method
rambutanw was established to offer mechanical watch owners in Kuantan and across Pahang a place where pieces are handled with care and findings are shared honestly.
Back to HomeHow rambutanw Came to Be
rambutanw grew from a long-held conviction that the mechanical wristwatch deserves more than a hurried repair. The studio was opened in Kuantan, Pahang, by a watchmaker who had spent years observing how rushed service work leaves pieces worse off than they need to be — movements reassembled without proper rate checking, bracelets cleaned but never truly attended to, owners left without any understanding of what was done or why.
The name references the bench itself — the physical surface on which the work takes place. It is a reminder that everything done here begins and ends with hands on the piece, not with broad assumptions or fast turnarounds.
The studio offers three programmes: a focused regulator adjustment for pieces whose timing has drifted, a complete mechanical service combined with vintage bracelet refit, and a quieter informational session for owners who want a structured annual care habit for their watches. Each programme is offered at a stated price, with no pressure to proceed beyond what the piece actually warrants.
Being based in Kuantan rather than in one of Malaysia's larger cities is not incidental to how the studio works. The pace here permits the kind of careful bench review that a metropolitan shop running twenty-five pieces a week cannot easily maintain. Owners drop off their watches in person, speak directly with the watchmaker, and collect them the same way.
The studio's approach to communication is straightforward. What is observed is noted down and shared. If a piece needs work that was not anticipated, that observation is offered to the owner without any obligation attached to it. The owner decides what happens next.
rambutanw does not advertise urgency or volume. It keeps a considered intake schedule so that no piece waits unattended on a shelf. The watchmaker prefers fewer commissions handled well to a full queue handled quickly.

Standards Observed at Every Bench Session
Calibration Stand Measurement
Every service and adjustment begins with objective measurement on a timing machine. Rate, amplitude, and beat error are recorded before and after each pass of work.
Appropriate Lubricant Selection
Oils and greases are chosen for the age and design of each calibre. Modern synthetic lubricants are applied where the movement permits; period-style materials are used where they are more appropriate.
Conservation Over Restoration
Original surfaces, patina, and case character are preserved unless the owner specifically requests otherwise. The studio considers a watch's history to be part of its value.
Written Service Records
A written record of what was observed and what was done accompanies each completed commission. Owners are encouraged to keep this alongside any existing papers for the piece.
Secure Handling Protocol
Pieces are tracked from intake to collection using a simple but consistent reference system. No watch leaves or changes hands without documentation and owner confirmation.
Post-Service Run-In Period
After a complete service, movements are run on a timing stand for a further period before collection to confirm that rate and amplitude have settled as expected.
Mechanical Watch Repair and Care in Kuantan, Pahang
rambutanw provides mechanical watch services to owners in Kuantan and the wider Pahang region. The studio's three programmes — regulator adjustment, complete service with vintage bracelet refit, and care calendar conversation — address the most common needs of owners of mechanical and automatic wristwatches.
The regulator adjustment programme is suited to pieces whose daily rate has drifted noticeably but which show no sign of deeper mechanical concern. The studio's calibration stand allows objective before-and-after measurement, giving owners a clear picture of what the adjustment has achieved.
The complete service programme follows established protocols for mechanical movement overhaul and extends to the original bracelet where the owner wishes to address both at the same time. This combined approach is particularly well suited to vintage pieces that have not been attended to in some years.
The care calendar conversation offers something different — a short, informational session for owners who simply want to understand how to look after their watches across the year, without necessarily having repair work done at that moment. A written summary is prepared and handed to the owner at the close of the session.
